Solvang is Danish in heritage and atmosphere. The city is located about 40 miles north of Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley. To get there, drive north of Santa Barbara on Highway 101 to the Buellton turnoff, then follow the signs to Solvang. You will pass several very beautiful horse ranches on the way into town. Solvang was founded in 1911 by a group of Danish educators from the Midwest who were searching for a site to establish a Danish Folk School. There is fine shopping, motels, and restaurants in the area to insure that your stay, whether one day or several, will be enjoyable and convenient.
